March 2024 Meeting Minutes

UPDATE: April meeting date is April 17th due to the Eid holiday!

 

Here are the meeting minutes for the Family Council meeting held on March 13th 2024 at the Wilder building in south Minneapolis (Google Docs).

Quick recap

This month much of the discussion focus on two end-of-year events:  Teacher Appreciation Week and the End of Year ECFE Picnic.  The first one is in May, the second in June, so planning for them can feel a little early, but in reality it is only 1 more regular meeting of the Family Council before May.

Please see the meeting minutes, but just real quick:

Teacher Appreciation week is May 6th - 10th.  An email has been sent out to ECFE-enrolled families with details of how they can contribute individually. If you are interested in working with the Family Council to do more, please reach out to john.w.jones89@gmail.com!

The End-of-Year ECFE Picnic is Friday June 7th, from 5pm to 7pm.  It is hosted in the North Mississippi Regional Park, at the playground and splash pad.  Minneapolis Parks will have a naturalist from the Kroening Nature Center there, and in addition to the playground and splash pad we will have a coloring table, have a 'drop-in' story time, and popsicles.

 Finally, we also discussed some needed organizational improvements (mostly related to filing paperwork) to target in the 2024-2025 school year.  We adjourned on time to a beautiful evening.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting is at the Mona Moede building in north Minneapolis on April 17th.  Starting at 5:30pm there is a free meal provided for families, and the meeting starts at 6:00pm.

January 2024 Meeting Minutes

 Here are the meeting minutes for the January 2024 Family Council meeting (Google Docs).

Quick recap

This week's discussion was focused primarily on the upcoming FamilyTree education night.  The date has been set for February 13th, at the Wilder center.  In the past, this event has been broadly popular with parents and caregivers and so we are happy to continue with it this year.  FamilyTree provides reproductive and sexual health services in the Minneapolis area, and expertly engages with schools and community groups in sex education discussions and courses.  Our event in February will be tailored to parents and caregivers of young children, and consist of educator-led discussion. The Wilder School Complex is served by Metro Transit's 5 Bus Route. If you are driving, the best place to park is along 34th Street near the play structure.

 

FEBRUARY MEETING DATE CHANGE

Because the normal February meeting date falls on Valentine's Day, and would be the day after the FamilyTree evening, we moved the meeting to Wednesday, February 21st (one week later).  Additionally, we encourage all attendees to arrive before the 6pm start time, as early as 5:30, to have more time getting to know each other and catch up before turning to business.
